Even though there are over 170 currencies in the world today, moves are afoot to create a single global currency within twenty years.  For most people, this would be a ‘fiat’ currency, a political currency managed by some form of world central bank.  The euro is a stage in the way to such a currency.  But an alternative would be for an economic currency, used in common but freely and without the need for political union, much as the US dollar is used today and the pound sterling was before it.  The basis of such a currency – and the focus of this project – could be agreement to use a universal form of accountancy.
